Whitch words come to mind when you think of St. Valentine’s Day? Love? Passion? Devotion? These things may describe how you feel about your significant other but at JMP, these things describe how we feel about statistics and empowering others to think statistically. As we move into February, here’s a few things we love!
Love: Enjoying community at Discovery Summit
For more than 10 years, data scientists, engineers, scientists, and business leaders from across Europe have convened to share in a week of discovery and fun. This year, we will gather in Berlin, March 11-13. What can you look forward to at this year’s summit?
Plenary session with Alexander Verbeek, former diplomat, podcaster, editor of The Planet newsletter, and international advisor on planetary change.
Paper presentations from major companies who successfully use analytics to solve problems.
Networking opportunities with like-minded folks to share great ideas and build new relationships.
“You always come out of Discovery Summit with new ideas. You've just seen people who are very excited about what they're doing. You can’t help but to get a little boost in energy and motivation. And you pick up things here that you hadn't thought of before.” Manager of Global Growth Analytics, Hexion
Last year in Manchester, a JMP user showcases his preferred mode of transportation for the week.
Love: Nurturing the next generation for important work
Every other year, the International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP) hosts a poster competition, aimed at augmenting the data literacy of more than 20,000 students. The goal is to bring these statistical skills to all corners of the world, across age, racial, gender, and socioeconomic divides. Part of the project’s mission is to create equity in how easily students can access the tools they need to learn statistics. Project topics vary, from socioeconomic perspectives on women’s health to parasite infestations in the Galapagos Islands – and everything in between. The result is a stunning demonstration of how statistical education piques students’ interest by jumping directly to real-world applications.
Each month, we feature a tip or trick from the Statistics Knowledge Portal our online glossary of statistical concepts so you can add it to your statistical tool kit.
